About the Artist - Brian Strickland
Brian's first glass mosaic, on Masonite, was done in 1965 while he was a junior in high school. After college, the Army, and a year floating around Europe, Brian started doing Mosaics, glass on glass. He has passionately worked on perfecting his art ever since. As with many creative endeavors, Brian's art form of Glass Mosaic originates from a desire and commitment to transform a concept into a tangible reality. Frequently, Brian's inspiration stems from a particular subject or theme. On other occasions, his imagination has been fueled by the scale of a project or a dominant color scheme.
Brian has participated in many shows and has done many commissioned pieces, some of which have been for the Old Town Playhouse, Faith Reformed Church, and several restaurants. One of his specialties is Mosaics of bicycles, some of which are in the private collection of the late John F. Kennedy, Jr., Lance Armstrong, and Greg Lamond.
In 1996, Brian earned first place at the Delphi Art Glass Festival. In 2007, Brian received the Wheatland Artist Award for Best of Show. A lot of Brian's work is displayed in Traverse City at his Glass Mosaic Gallery, and The Candle Factory, as well as the Stained Glass Cabinet Company in Acme.
Brian's glass work was featured in Traverse Magazine in 2001.
